  the thing that rotates inside the disposal is stuck. take a broom handle and stick it into the disposal and move the bottom plate in a circular motion till it dislodges whatever is stuck.

  I have the same problem. There is supposed to be (on many disposals anyway) a port with an "Allen wrench" access that you use to move the device back and forth to dislodge the item(s) causing the unit to stick (and the resulting hmmmmm of the electric motor usually obscured by the grinding of the food). I cannot see it on this unit (Waste King 1001) and am looking for the manual before I start using broom sticks. The link here is out of date. Anyone got a current link?

• When you hit the switch it only hums
  
  
  We cleaned it out and found tons of strawberry stems. That must have jammed it. Then we hit the reset button and it started. You really have to watch what you put in these machines
