convection cooking

convection cooking instructions that include preheating appear to be incorrect. If I set the preheat temperature, it will not allow me to continue on and set the cooking duration time. The buttons do not register on the panel for the duration time and do not appear to be active. Anyone else have this problem and can you help to provide the correct sequence of button pushing. I have the manual but it doesn't seem to work with the procedure they provide.
