I just had the same problem. The microwave turned itself on at 4:52am. My dog started growling and barking. I ran to the kitchen and it smelled burned wires.
If I did not have a dog my home could catch on fire. I have two small kids and I think this problem should be recalled by the KitchenAid Corporation. I spoke with a manager from the company and I was informed that they did not have enough complaints regarding malfunctioning motherboard.
This incident could have caused serious injuries or death to my family if I did not hear it and it started a fire.
I had it repaired last week and because it was purchased over one year ago they did not pay for the $170.00 service charge.
I do not mind paying if the part was worn out….but faulty parts…. The company should cover all costs including the service charge.
