Hamilton Beach Slow Cooker 417-1

auto shift

I just read that the auto shift cooks on high the 1st hour and then kicks it down to low for the remainder of the time. I have the same model and didn't know so was checking on this too. Also, does the metal outside on yours get really hot? My husband doesn't think this is right account so extremely hot but I figure it's ok. I just checked to see if there were any recalls on it but there isn't. Deb
