have gas connected to brand new af 3550 American r...

have gas connected to brand new af 3550 American range deep fryer. Gas is turned on, cannot get pilot to light. There is no gas flowing. Is there an initial step I need to take to get gas to flow in unit. My gas supply line is functioning properly.
