We have had our bread machine for about one year and use it regularly. The last two times that I have made dough I found that the area where the shaft goes through the paddle has a dark brown discharge that discolours the dough. The only thing I can think of is that it is rust that has worked its way past the seal. Any ideas?

5 That dark substance is actually grease. It indicates that the washer that holds the shaft in place is getting worn out. Eventually the shaft drops right out of the bottom of the pan. Then you need a new pan.
