paddle will not turn, the spinner underneath goes around but paddle will not turn

0 remove bottom of machine (2 screws and 4 rubber feet) undo the retaining nut on the large wheel and inspect the washer underneath. it has 2 squared edges. mine had stripped. i went to an appliance store and they found me a new one, good as new now. you could also have a broken belt drive, I'm sure they are also still available, good luck.
