0 The Braun Type 3045 is also a KMM 30 model grinder. It's actually a good grinder. Not sure if you motor died or if you just jammed it. Here's how to disassemble and reassemble it: Pull off the clear bean hopper: it will just pull straight up. Then set the grind ring all the way to the "Fine" or "Espresso" stop (at or below "1"). Look at the grind adjustment ring. You will see three slots that you can fit a flat blade screw driver into. By gently pressing outward on the tip of the screwdriver, you can release the three tabs that hold the grind selector onto the white plastic ring that holds the upper grind face. Try not to rotate the grind ring as you do this. When the grind selector is off, rotate it clockwise until it stops, counting the clicks. This will give you an indication of how to adjust it when you put it back together. To remove the upper grind face, simply turn the ring counter clockwise. It will unscrew, revealing the lower grind face. Then you can brush or vacuum out the debris. If you think your motor is jammed, see if you can rotate the lower grind face by hand. You can also try to plug the unit in and see if the motor runs freely without the upper grind face in place. To reassemble, unplug the unit again and screw the upper grind face back into the assembly until it stops. Then back it off the number of clicks you recorded before you disassembled it. If you didn't record it, don't worry. I did the same. I simply backed off the upper grind face 10 clicks and that seems to work OK. If you don't back it off enough, the two faces will hit and jam the motor, or they will scrape against each other and wear out quickly. Then position the grind selector over the upper grind face assembly, with the indicator over the most fine setting (as before) and gently push it into place. I suggest you test the setting by turning the selector to full coarse and then plug in the unit and turn it on briefly. If it scrapes or jams, turn it off immediately. If not, then try successively finer settings to make sure it never scrapes or jams. If it doesn't, you're probably good to go. If it scrapes or jams on the finest setting, then you'll need to disassemble it and back off on the upper grind face assembly before reassembling it. For a manual, see http://www.manualslib.com/download/218516/Braun-Kmm30.html. Unfortunately this manual does not cover this disassembly or fine adjustment procedure. But I dimly recall that when I first bought this unit (back in the 1990's) it came with an insert that described the backing off process, and I seem to recall 10 clicks as the magic number. Unfortunately I can't find that insert today and haven't found it on-line. You can always test the grind and fine tune the setting as you wish, such as in the case where the espresso setting isn't fine enough, as long as you don't get the two grind faces contacting each other. Good luck.

0 Hmm. I see you have a type 4045. That's a slightly different model than the 3045 I described in great detail. Sorry about that. The 4045, which I also have, is much easier to clean. You just unwind the coffee hopper from the rest of the unit and you can get at the two grinding wheels. It's not possible to over tighten when reassembling unless one manages to use enough force to break off the stop tab on the lower unit. Which I hope you didn't do! In any case, you might try seeing if the lower grind wheel turns freely. This would indicate the motor is not seized up. You could also try turning it on with the upper wheel removed, to see if the motor turns at all. If it doesn't, that's a good indication the motor is bad and probably you'll have to replace the whole unit.
