as soon as I turn on the egg cooker there is a con...

as soon as I turn on the egg cooker there is a constant hi pitched beeping that does not stop...the light is not on...it's hot....then the light comes on for a second....then shuts off.....beeping again.... Is this the way that works? Drive you crazy so you don't want boiled eggs? Ever! The instruction book offers no info
