nothing is woking on the 240 v

0 have trouble starting on gas.works perfectly on 240 and 12v. hae been told by previous owner works great on gas .......hold in the top button,while clicking the bottom button,which is the igniter,i think, until the top button stays in on its own, i cant get it to stay in. help.please.
