Wasn't even a month old an it stopped working. It would spark to life when shaken so that got me thinking a loose wire. I took the top off to look inside an found a something that has 2 wires hooked to it that was causing it to not work. One wire leading out was visible burnt but when moved the microwave would power up, I think its a diode, 2 screws holing it in place an a part #KSD1 180. Not sure where to find a placement part but am looking. Also it would be nice to know why this happened on such a new micowave.

5 Good luck finding a replacement! This part has been discontinued because of it's high failure rate: http://www.repairclinic.com/SSPartDetail.aspx?s=b162a6i1057439&PartID=1057439 Mine blew up after 3 years of operation. I have ordered a used replacement part from ebay: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=120393912505&ssPageName=ADME:B:EOIBSA:US:1123 I will throw away this cheap oven when this part fails again. BTW this microwave has a one year warranty so you should return it if you can.

5 Be very careful cause even unplugged capacitor has voltage. It looks to discharge after awhile though. Its a thermal safety component, it bypassed to another thermal safety component that was put in the circuit along side it.

3 The Emerson Microwave part KSD1 180 is a thermal circuit protection device. It is rated for 180 degrees (220VAC @ 10A). Having burnt wires/connectors attached to this part is a very common problem with this brand of microwaves. I guess you get what you pay for...

3 Thank you for your response, I checked several repair shops but have been unable to find a replacement part. I however have not tried contacting Emerson yet I was hoping to find something locale or online. Would that be something you could help me with?

0 One more thing...these seem to cutoff microwave when overcooking something so be more careful.

0 I read elsewhere that the contacts were lose to the piece to cause problems, which makes sense cause I burned food in mine before it had problems.

0 This part is a thermostat, on the bottom is the temperature rating, such as 140 or 180. The device might have KSD1 on the bottom also. I am searching for a KSD1-180 haven't located one yet.
