Question About GE Dishwasher GSD3220
won't start...

I replaced the latch on my gsd 3220 GE Dishwasher. Now it won't start when I close the panel. I checked my circuit breaker that goes to the dishwasher and it's on. I notice that a lever in the latch pushes a flexible piece of metal up. How does that start the machine? Thanks for any help. Ed
