5 Make sure the disposal is off when doing these: Many garbage disposals have a hex-like slot on the bottom and they usually come with a tool that will fit into it it help turn/rotate the disposal to unclog it. If you don't have the tool, you may need to buy one. Some people recommend using a broom handle to get the disposal to rotate.
