At times when baking I notice a strong gas odor or...

At times when baking I notice a strong gas odor or gas build up. and temp does not heat as set. It can read 425 and it is really 246. We have noticed that there is explosions from the gas build up and is getting worse. Can you help me figure it out? I can't find my manual and want to be safe!
