I have a basic, non-electric GE XL44 range. It does not have the electric lighting feature; it has pilot lights. I live in a very hot part of the country, so I just turn off the range pilot lights completely in the summer and light the burners with matches until the weather cools off in late fall. I don't use the oven at all. Since there is no adjustment, there's no way to turn it off that I see. How can I turn off the pilot in the oven so that it isn't radiating heat all summer?
