My daughter cooked (burned) chocolate on a plastic...

My daughter cooked (burned) chocolate on a plastic plate for 2 minutes and melted the plate. Now the microwave stinks when i use it. how do I know if it issafe to use? I've boiled both white vinegar and then lemons in water but the smell persists. can I remove the off white plate covering the components on the inside top of the microwave?
