when pushed down the toaster pops right back up. it will not stay down when pushed down. i tried to trouble shoot by taking it apart but had trouble removing the handle. how can i do that? the little metal bar below the handle that is suposed to catch or attach to the electric field below was loose but i could not get to it without removing the handle. thanks. tom

0 We had the same problem with our 4 slice Hamilton Beach. Instead of taking the toaster apart, we pulled out the crumb tray on the bottom and blew compressed air into the toaster, and it works well again. Sometimes a hard to get out crumb can prevent the electromagnet from holding the carriage down.
