5 When this occurs, it is quite likely that you have accrued a nice collection of stringy matter between the grind plate and the plate housing, Taking the unit apart and manually removing this buildup would be ideal, but if you are not mechanically inclined or you do not wish to spend the money on a licensed technician to do the job, or if you would be voiding your warranty by wrenching on the unit then I would recommend the following treatment. Most of the stringy material that you want to get rid of is fiber from vegetables like asparagus, celery etcetera as well as the big culprit - tendon and connective tissues from meat. You should consult with your local hardware proffesional or the good people at your units customer service website as to what commercial strength product will dissolve these organic materials and maintain the integrity and function of your unit. After you have followed the product's usage and safety recommendations you should flush the unit for at least 10 minutes with hot running water while the unit runs. This should improve the performance and longevity of your disposal unit.
