My husband and I load our dishwasher. Our question...

My husband and I load our dishwasher. Our question is why is it on the wash cycle and don't go to the dry cycle? It has been on the wash cycle for about 2 hours? We are renting and the landlord does not have the instructions to the dishwasher. We just know it is Kenmore Elite Ultra Wash Quite Guard Deluxe.
