I have a kenmore trash compactor model #665.13605790. It has an extra pack feature/switch. When you press the extra pack button. It will not compact. When you switch it to normal compact, then it works. Extra pack makes the compactor stay in the compact mode (down) until you press the normal compact button. Which will let the compactor raise. Can you tell me if it is that switch or another switch that is not working correctly?
