5 ed michaels : Hi, sorry the news is not good. The machine running for a few seconds and stopping is a very common problem with microwaves as they age. The Electronic Control Panel is beginning to fail. It’s not a simple DIY Replacement. If you are experienced around electricity, have a multimeter, and are interested in servicing machine yourself, let me know and I can find the part for you. The board itself is expensive (about $95) and not returnable. It also may not be the only problem. Unfortunately, Microwaves have become like TVs, cheaper to replace than to service. Much like televisions, microwaves are full of very high voltage (4000v-5000v) even when unplugged, and require care and experience to service. Also like televisions, once they're out of warrantee, parts and labor (if you can find them) can often approach or exceed the cost of a new machine. I suggest that you check repair costs by clicking on Neff Repair here: http://customerservice.neff.co.uk/arrange-an-engineer/prices for their fixed labor plan, To compare, click on this link: http://www.ukwhitegoods.co.uk/search/find-an-appliance-engineer.html to find a local engineer for local service with parts extra.
