How do you put the rinse agent in the dispenser on...

How do you put the rinse agent in the dispenser on a maytag quiet series 200 dishwasher? We tried putting in place where it should go, but it would not go in. Could a plug have been put in as part of a recall on this dishwasher? We just moved in to this house and inherited the dishwasher with no manual.
