I Have a Maytag MTB2456DEW Refrigerator the top ...

I Have a Maytag MTB2456DEW Refrigerator the top fan motor is open, but why do i have 120Volts going to both sides of the motor? the stat was bad & i replaced it. but then found fan motor bad.
