5 I have had mine for about 30 years. Here's how it works. The container has hash marks on it, 1, 2, and 3. That is to make 1, 2, or 3 cups of rice. You use 2/3 cup of rice for each cooked cup that you want. For 1 cup, use 2/3 cup of rice, dump it in, and fill it with water up to the 1 mark. For 2 cups, use 1 1/3 cups of rice and fill it to the 2 mark. For 3 cups, use 2 cups of rice, fill to the 3 mark. Put the lid on and push the on button. It will pop up and turn off automatically when it it done cooking. Makes perfect rice.
