My model hc24rs is not cooling. I got the unit use...

My model hc24rs is not cooling. I got the unit used and it seems that some else has been working on it because it had a line tap on it to check the refrigerant pressure. I was wondering if they ran it if they could have burned up the compressor or if I could put more in it if it would be ok
