This breadmaker has a protusion on the inside that appears it would stop the bread from kneading. Is it supposed to be there? What is the purpose of it?

0 If the protrusion you mentioned is a single removable stem that comes in from the side of the bread pan, that would be the dough "hook". Its purpose is to snag and hold the dough ball so that the kneading blade can knead the dough properly. But if you're refering instead to the "bumps" built into the sides of the bread pan, they're there for the very same reason. The dough ball would simply sit atop the kneading paddle and spin if it weren't for one or the other of these protrusions. Hope this helps and Warmest Regards from The Breadmaker Guru
