A stick substance was burned onto the metal interior and lip of my crock pot. How can I remove this safely & without damaging the mechanism?

0 I found the solution. I used a hand-held steam cleaner. It took some work, but it took off all burned on substances on both the interior & exterior of the pot safely & without chemicals.
