my roper stove oven makes a beeping noise randomly...

my roper stove oven makes a beeping noise randomly and I get an 'error'? message on the display that I think says E2 but it is hard to read it so it might be another number. What might this mean. I just rented this house and it's a roper/whirlpool electric stove. Thanks.
