Question About Sharp Microwave Oven None

We are remodeling our kitchen and moved the microwave temporarily. My husband plugged it in the an outlet without a ground by using an adapter. When he plugged it in and started to set the clock he said it made a "plink" sound and went out. Is the solution something simple or have we ruined our microwave?
