I don't have a manual for FF1625SS. My food is constantly spoiling before it should. Please explain the temperature controls. Do I turn the knob toward 1 or 9 to make it cooler? If 9 is coldest, why does it say off next to it?

5 9 is the coldest temperature it says off next to it because after the coldest temperature there is no other option but to turn off completely or switch to a lower setting.
