Just purchased my father a microwave last year and...

Just purchased my father a microwave last year and it stopped working a few weeks ago. It was a Christmas gift and I no longer have a reciept and trusted in the brand enough to not purchase a warranty. Is there anything the maker of the appliance will do because times are tough and buying a new microwave isnt easy?
