0 Just pour into the pot. The heating element is pretty tough. Be aware, though, that you should only heat water in this pot. Any other fluid can "cook" itself onto the heating element, thereby ruining it.  If the liquid would burn on the bottom of a cooking pot, it should not be used in this kettle.
