Cannot get machine to turn on. Is there something in manual that will explain problem?

1 Have you checked to make sure the cover has engaged the safety lock. If it's not engaged, the machine won't turn on. Usually all it takes is making sure the cover is on securely. My friend bought one like this at a thrift store. It didn't come with a lid, so I just stuck something in the slot to cause a tab to side back into it's recess and used a flat pan for a "cover". Worked just fine. The reason the lid has a safety latch is to keep stupid people from putting their FINGERS into the moving parts.

0 No, the manual says nothing about that. I'd take it to a small appliance repair shop.
