how can I adjust the oven door on a westinghouse freestyle 518 upright stove? With door closed, the bottom is shut, but there`s a 5 to 10mm gap between the top of the door and the oven body. Earl.

9 Weak hinges that bend over time. To fix it, first remove the oven door, drop down the little tabs to hold the door open and then it lifts out. Get a large flat blade screw driver and insert the blade into the hinge hole on the oven, blade down handle up. Then press the handle towards the oven to bend the hinge holding plate. Hope this works as quickly as it did for me. much better than a "technician" charging $100.00 and not achieving anything better.

2 I want to add to Colin's suggestion my comments: I used two screwdrivers with one as a lever. 1-2 mm bend of the bottom wall of the rectangular hole was enough to fix the problem. It is important while the door is open not to put on it any heavy objects (pots, trays, etc. Ideally open- close door gently. A hinge hole at the bottom end is deforming with time as it not reinforced well enough.

2 Simple. Works on any Oven. Purchase ten Neodymium Rare Earth Magnets size 6mm x 1.5mm. Mine cost $6.00. They are very powerful so be careful. Split the roll into 2 x 5 magnets and place each stack beside the rubber seal on the flat where the door will touch at the top. Close the door. Magic! You may need more magnets or less, depending on the gap. Never fix it again. Enjoy.

1 How good was that, my wife/best friend has been bugging me for a couple of weeks thank you colremus, a suggestion might be to tell people don't put pressure on the door when cleaning the glass as that has stressed my hinges. Cheers

0 Holy shit. Sixty seconds it took. Thank you thank you.
Would suggest Peter is right on the money as to how this happens (downward pressure when cleaning glass).

0 Thanks Colin for the posting and fix. It fixed the problem, once I found information online about how to remove the door.  Instructions are on page 32 of the following document.

Searching the net it appears the problem is common with a number of different Westinghouse oven doors. Definitely a bad design
Hamish, I showed my wife your post: she is happy, but not as happy as your wife evidently.

0 Unfortunately the "fix" has only lasted a few days. The door has a 6mm gap at the top. There must be a limit to how many times the metal can be bent back into shape before it breaks owing to fatigue.

0 Took the oven sides off, packed the hinge anchor with half a beer bottle cap. Glue the cap to the frame else it falls out if you remove the door
