I need a manual for a dishwasher that is from abou...

I need a manual for a dishwasher that is from about the year of 1990. I would like to know what the compartment on the top left side (as I look in it) I thought maybe for a rinse aide or cleaning booster, but it has to solid as the compartment has a mess like front to it. It just snaps in and out? It was here when I moved in in '98. Thanks for any possible help or suggestions,Shirley
