when using the timer button it is ok it goes up by...

when using the timer button it is ok it goes up by 5 seconds and as soon as i push the start button it does not start but the timer goes up by 30 seconds each time i press it. what is wrong? i have a whirlpool micro wave mv 204 model. thank u.
