I have a Whirlpool ARC 6170 and the freezer compar...

I have a Whirlpool ARC 6170 and the freezer compartment kept defrosting so I switched the freezer section off and just use the fridge. Now the freezer keeps switching itself back on with a dreadful alarm sounding at the same time. Can I disconnect the freezer compartment or remove the battery from the alarm? Thank you.
