CLEANING AND
MAINTENANCE
CAUTION: Always disconnect the kettle from
electrical outlet before cleaning.
Before cleaning, be sure the kettle is cold.
Clean the exterior surface of the kettle with a clean,
damp cloth to preserve its original highly polished
finish. Dry and polish with a soft cloth.
Do not use abrasive cleansers or scouring agents of
any kind inside or on the exterior of the kettle.
Do not immerse the kettle or power base in
water or other liquid, and be sure that the
electrical kettle socket is kept dry.
ANTI-SCALE
WATER FILTER
Scale is mainly calcium carbonate (chalk), a harm-
less, naturally occuring mineral found in most
water supplies. ‘Hard’ water contains more of this
than ‘soft’ water.
When water is heated, the minerals solidify. This
can make water appear cloudy; it may form a thin
film on the surface of the water after boiling; it may
also look like whitish pieces of plastic in the water;
it may also form a film on the walls of the kettle.
The scale particles which remain suspended in the
water may give it a cloudy or greasy appearance,
depending on the hardness of the water. The per-
manent filter fitted to your kettle will prevent these
particles from being poured out of your kettle. You
must ensure that the filter is kept clean and clear of
deposits, otherwise the performance of your kettle
may be adversely affected, your drinks may contain
scale particles, and the water inside the kettle may
look cloudy. The filter should be cleaned when
there are any noticeable deposits left on the filter
and especially if pouring is affected in any way.
Removing the Filter
With the lid off of the kettle, grasp the protruding
finger tab located right behind the spout with the
thumb and forefinger. Press down and pull the fil-
ter back towards the centre of the kettle; lift out.
To Clean the Filter
Upon removing the filter, rinse it under a running
tap while brushing it with a soft brush. Replace it in
the kettle.
To Refit the Filter
Holding the filter by the finger tab, angle it in
towards the bottom of the back of the spout area.
Its shape will conform to the wall shape. When it is
nested on the bottom of the kettle floor, press the
finger tab forward, snapping it into place in front of
the spout opening.
The Anti-Scale Filter will reduce, but not entirely
eliminate the calcium build-up on the kettle’s inte-
rior surfaces. Cuisinart, therefore, recommends that
you decalcify your unit from time to time. Please
refer to the decalcification instructions that follow.
DECALCIFICATION
Decalcification refers to removing the calcium
deposits which may form in the interior metal
parts of the kettle.
For best performance of your Cuisinart
®
kettle,
decalcify your unit from time to time.
Frequency depends on the hardness of your tap
water and how often you use the kettle.
We suggest use of a kettle descaler in order to
dissolve these chalky deposits or scale. Follow the
directions on the descaler package. If a commercial
descaler is not available, fill the kettle with enough
white vinegar to cover the bottom by about
1/2"(1.3cm). Bring the vinegar to a boil. You may
need to repeat this several times with cooled
vinegar to remove the calcium build-up completely.
When the descaling process is complete, empty the
kettle and rinse out several times with clean water.
