The
most
common
problems
with
electric
heating
elements
arc open
connections,;bad
connections,
short
circuits
or
ground
faults.
A
grounded
or
shorted
element
will
normally trip
a breaker.
In some
circumstances,
the
grounded
element
can
continue to
heat
without
tripping
a breaker.
The only
way
to
determine
if an element
is
grounded
or shorted
is to
disconnect
all
wires from the
element.
Check
across
the leads
for the
resistance
reading
and frorn
one lead
to
ground
for
a
shorted
element.
With an
amp
clip
meter,
check
the
griddle
ground
wire to
see
if there
is any
indication
of
current.
If so,
this
is a
good
indication
of
a
grounded
element.
Check to see
if full
power
can be
read
when
placing the
volt meter from one
element
power
lead to
the element
case.
Keep
in mind that
many
grounded
or shorted
element
problems
may
NOT
occur
unless
the
element is
up to operating
tempera-
ture.
Once
the
element
is up
to operating
temperature
the
element
can be
checked
with an ohm
meter
after
disconnecting
power
to the
griddle
and disconnecting
one
element
lead
from the
power
distribu-
tion. Check
continuity
through
the element
for
open
circiuts
and/or
ground
faults
and frorn
the
element
lead
to
ground
for short
circuits.
As
referenced
below
in figure Z,the Accumiser
is a
voltage specific
griddle.
The
wrong
voltage
to the
griddle
can
geatly
reduce
the life
of
the element and/or
destroy the
element
immediatel!
