Intermate100 and Intermate101 Print Server Administration Manual 90
IP Assignments for Initial Contact: Information Needed Before Starting
• You can make the name DNS qualified by adding a
company domain name and a top domain, for example
im00801e.mycompany.com.
• Permissible characters: alpha (A-Z), numeric (digits 0-
9), minus sign (-), underscore (_) and period (.)—
subject to the following additional restrictions:
• Periods are only allowed when they serve to delimit
components of DNS qualified names (“domain style
names”).
• The first character must be alpha.
• The last character must not be a minus sign, an
underscore or a period.
Finally, if you will be using a method for initial contact
which does not work across routers you must do the follow-
ing:
Find the IP address for your the PC or terminal from which you
will be configuring the Intermate1xx.
Tip:
DOS commands for Windows users
winipcfg (Windows 95/98) or
ipconfig (Windows NT 4.0, Windows 2000 or XP)
Determine whether or not your PC's or terminal’s IP address is on
the same net-segment as the address chosen for the
Intermate1xx
.
If there is a router or a gateway between the two, then you must
get them both on the same segment or choose a method for
assigning an address to the unit which can work across a router
with the help of an IP static route.
How to find the group of settings called [TCP/IP]:
• Browser user: [TCP/IP] is in the "Basic” sub-group of
the “Configurations” group.
• Telnet user: TCP/IP is a point on the main menu.
