Next to water, tea is the most affordable drink in the world. That doesn’t mean it isn’t precious.
In fact, tea is a cultural drink for which there have been many, many rituals throughout time. Accor-
ding to Chinese mythology, the first cup of tea was accidentally made in 2737 BC. The Chinese
Emperor, Shen Nung, scholar and herbalist, was quietly sitting beneath a tree while his servant duti-
fully boiled the drinking water. A leaf from the tree above dropped into the water, and when the water
was fully boiled, Shen Nung decided to try the new leafy drink. He loved it. The tree was a wild tea
tree, and the rest is history.
