Tips for using steam to froth milk
When choosing the size of the container, bear in mind that
the liquid doubles or triples in volume.
For a richer denser froth, use fresh skimmed or partially
skimmed milk at refrigerator temperature (about 5°C).
For a creamier froth, rotate the container with slow move-
ments in an upward direction.
To avoid milk with poor froth or large bubbles, always clean
the spout as described in the following section.
Cleaning the spout after use
Always clean the spout after use to avoid the build-up of milk
residues and prevent the spout from clogging.
1. Place a container under the traditional frother and press
the button to deliver a little water (g. 3). Stop the
ow of hot water by pressing the button again.
2. Wait a few minutes for the traditional frother to cool down,
then press the button on the hot water spout and extract
it (g. 27A). Hold the spout with one hand and with the
other, turn the traditional frother anticlockwise (g. 27B)
and pull downwards to remove.
3. Also remove the steam connection nozzle by pulling it
downwards (g. 28).
4.
Check the hole shown by the arrow in g. 29 is not blocked.
If necessary, clean with a pin.
5. Wash all parts of the traditional frother thoroughly with a
sponge and warm water.
6. Reinsert the nozzle and replace the traditional frother on
the nozzle, pushing it upwards and turning it until it is
attached.
CLEANING
Cleaning the machine
The following parts of the machine must be cleaned regularly:
- coee grounds container (A10),
- drip tray (A12),
- water tank (A16),
- coee spouts (A7),
- hot water/steam connection nozzle (A8)
- pre-ground coee funnel (A4),
- the infuser (A15), accessible after opening the service door
(A14),
- control panel (B)
- milk container (C)
Important!
Do not use solvents, abrasive detergents or alcohol to
clean the appliance. With De’Longhi bean to cup coee
machines, you need not use chemical products to clean the
machine.
None of the components of the appliance can be washed in
a dishwasher with the exception of the milk container (C).
Do not use metal objects to remove encrustations or coee
deposits as they could scratch metal or plastic surfaces.
Cleaning the coee grounds container
When “EMPTY GROUNDS CONTAINER” is displayed, the grounds
container must be emptied and cleaned.
Until the grounds container has been cleaned, the appliance will
not make coee.
Even if not full, the empty grounds container message is displa-
yed 72 hours after the rst coee has been prepared. For the
72 hours to be calculated correctly, the machine must never be
turned o using the main switch.
Important! Danger of burns
If you make a number of cappuccinos one after the other, the
metal cup tray becomes hot. Wait for it to cool down before tou-
ching it and handle it from the front only.
To clean (with the machine on):
Extract the drip tray (g. 30), empty and clean.
Empty the grounds container and clean thoroughly to re-
move all residues left on the bottom. This can be done with
the spatula on the brush provided.
Check the condensate tray and empty if necessary (g. 31).
Important!
When removing the drip tray, the grounds container must be
emptied, even if it contains few grounds.
If this is not done, when you make the next coees, the grounds
container may ll up more than expected and clog the machine.
Cleaning the drip tray and condensate tray
Important!
The drip tray is tted with a level indicator (red) showing the
level of water it contains (g. 32).
Before the indicator protrudes from the cup tray, the drip tray
must be emptied and cleaned, otherwise the water may over-
ow the edge and damage the appliance, the surface it rests on
or the surrounding area.
To remove the drip tray:
1. Extract the drip tray and grounds container (g. 30);
2. Empty the drip tray and grounds container and wash them;
3. Check the condensate tray and empty if necessary.
4. Replace the drip tray complete with grounds container.
