“Start With a Mix” Recipes
Try these waffle variations made easy when prepared with a packaged mix.
NOTE: When using packaged pancake and waffle mix, the package directions for waffles
call for 2 cups (500 ml) of the packaged mix and 1

cups (375 ml) of milk or water. Some
recipes then add oil and eggs. If the following variations call to reduce or increase the liq-
uid, it is referring to the milk or water. Each recipe will make 3 to 4 cups (750 ml to 1 L) of
batter.
Banana-Pecan Waffles
Add 1 mashed banana and
1
⁄3 cup (80 ml) chopped pecans.
Beer Batter Waffles
Replace all the liquid with beer.
Honey & Nut Waffles
Reduce liquid to 1 cup (250 ml). Add
1
⁄2 cup (125 ml) honey and
1
⁄3 cup (80 ml)
chopped nuts.
Applesauce Waffles
Reduce liquid by
1
⁄2 cup (125 ml). Add 1 cup (250 ml) of applesauce and
1
⁄2 tea-
spoon (2.5 ml) cinnamon.
PB&J Waffles
Add 1 cup (250 ml) peanut butter. Increase liquid by
1
⁄2 cup (125 ml). Serve topped
with melted jelly.
Cinnamon-Sugar Waffles
Combine 1 tablespoon (15 ml) sugar and 1 teaspoon (5 ml) cinnamon. Spray grids
with cooking spray. Pour batter onto grids. Sprinkle batter with some cinnamon-
sugar before closing lid.
Muffin Stix
Packaged muffin mixes can be used in your waffle maker. Mix according to
package instructions and bake.
Brownie Stix
Packaged brownie mixes can be used in your waffle maker. Mix according to
package’s “cake” instructions.
Hushpuppy Stix
Whisk together 1 cup (250 ml) hushpuppy mix, 1 cup (250 ml) water, and 2 table-
spoons (30 ml) oil. Let sit 5 minutes. Pour batter onto waffle maker.
