Preserving The Brazilian Rain Forest By Promoting Its Natural Resources
Destruction of the Brazilian rain forest is a global concern revolving around a variety of complicated issues. Political, social,
and economic demands often conflict with ecological necessities. Today, agricultural development accounts for the vast
majority of rain forest destruction. Each year, acres of land are burned and clear-cut. Unfortunately, because soil conditions
are generally poor, these low-yield farm lands will sustain crops for only several years of production.
B R -111
is committed to preserving Brazils rain forest, promoting and renewing its natural resources for the benefit of future
generations. The company adheres to a simple philosophy: Maintain the rain forest for selective timber cutting and other
natural harvesting, while following an aggressive reforestation program for long-term preservation.
Strictly monitored by the Brazilian National Environmental Department (IBAMA), BR-111
harvests timber from its own
managed forest lands. And while each acre of land can yield up to 60 prime trees, BR-111
harvests only three per acre. Age,
condition, and environmental impact on the immediate area are carefully considered. After removal, three or four trees are
replanted. In the final analysis, the practice of selective cutting produces the highest quality lumber and allows immature
trees to benefit from increased sunlight and water.
The salvation of the rain forest lies in creating respect for it as a renewable resource. BR-111
supports the belief that
international demand for rain forest products will increase overall economic reliance, promoting the long term conservation
of the rain forest. Furthermore, a ban on the importation of rain forest products or increased taxes will only serve to
discourage the timber industry, paving the way for the continued destruction of the rain forest for agricultural development.
B R -111
continues to preserve and renew our natural resources by strictly adhering to all IBAMA guidelines. And, it is our
sincere hope that by promoting rain forest products, BR-111
can help preserve this most valuable resource.
