IMPORTANT SAFEGUARDS
When using this machine or any other electrical
appliance, always follow these basic instructions:
1. Read all instructions.
2. To protect against risk of electrical shock, DO NOT put motor base or pedestal
(PBS shaver base) in water or other liquid.
3. Close adult supervision is necessary when appliance is used by or near children.
This appliance is not intended for use by persons (including children) with
reduced physical, sensory or mental capabilities, or lack of experience and
knowledge, unless they have been given supervision or instruction concerning
use of the appliance by a person responsible for their safety. Children should
be supervised to ensure that they do not play with the appliance.
4. Never touch or make contact with moving parts, especially the blades.
5. Unplug power cord from wall outlet when the Vita-Mix
®
machine is not in use,
before disassembling, when putting on or taking off parts, and before
cleaning, other than washing the container.
6. The machine must be positioned so the power cord plug is accessible.
7. The machine must be plugged into its own dedicated power supply or outlet
that is appropriate for the machine’s power requirements. Consult an
electrician for proper electrical needs.
8. DO NOT operate any machine with a damaged cord or plug, if the machine
malfunctions, or has been dropped or damaged in any manner. In the US and
Canada, call Vita-Mix Technical Support, 800-886-5235 at once for
examination, repair, possible replacement, or electrical or mechanical
adjustment. If you live outside the United States or Canada, contact your local
Vita-Mix Distributor, or telephone the Vita-Mix International Division at
+1.440.782.2450 or email international@vitamix.com for a distributor in
your country.
9. DO NOT use attachments not recommended or sold by Vita-Mix Corporation.
Doing so will void the warranty. Alteration or modification of this product
in any form is not recommended as such may result in bodily injury.
10. DO NOT use outdoors.
11. DO NOT let the power cord hang over the edge of a table or counter.
12. DO NOT place the machine on or near a hot gas or electrical burner, in a
heated oven, or allow machine to touch hot surfaces. External heat sources
can damage the machine.
13. Keep hands and utensils out of machine container while motor is running to
prevent the possibility of severe personal injury and/or damage to the Vita-Mix
machine. A rubber spatula may be used, but only when the Vita-Mix machine
is NOT running. With the flexible rubber lid in place, the Vita-Mix accelerator
tool/tamper (available with some models) may be used while motor is running.
14.
WARNING: Blades are sharp! Handle carefully.
Never try to remove the blades while the container is on the motor base.
DO NOT operate with loose, nicked or damaged blades replace
immediately.
To reduce the risk of personal injury, never place blade assembly on motor
base without blender container properly attached.
15. The maximum normal load/capacity is equivalent to the ounces/liters listed on
the container, i.e., 48 oz. / 1.4 Ltr., and substantially less with thick mixtures.
16. Container should not be more than 2/3 full when the accelerator tool/tamper
is left in place while blending. DO NOT exceed 30 seconds of continuous
blending with accelerator tool/tamper in place.
17. When making nut butters or oil based foods, DO NOT process for more than
one minute after mixture starts circulating. Overprocessing can cause
dangerous overheating.
18.
CAUTION: Cooling problems resulting in thermal shut-off and eventual
motor damage may result if machine is operated in sound chambers other
than those approved and sold by Vita-Mix.
19. Always operate the machine with the complete two-part lid locked in place
(unless the accelerator tool/tamper is inserted through the lid or for regular
PBS applications, when the splash guard is in place). Remove the lid plug only
when adding ingredients or using the accelerator tool/tamper.
20.
WARNING: When processing hot liquids:
The two-part latching lid must be securely locked in place. This allows
steam to escape naturally and will prevent the lid from coming off when
the machine is turned on.
DO NOT start processing hot liquids on a HIGH speed. Always start
processing hot liquids on a LOW speed, then switch to a HIGH speed while
the machine is running.
Use caution with hot liquids. Liquids may spray from under the lid plug or
escaping steam may cause scalding.
DO NOT process hot ingredients with theVita-Mix non-latching or one-piece lid.
21.
WARNING: Machines should NOT to be cleaned with a water jet. See “Care
and Cleaning.”
22.
CAUTION: On any machine with a lighted START/STOP switch, the light, when
lit, indicates the power to blender is ON and blender could start. Turn power
OFF, or unplug the machine before touching movable parts. Shut OFF
the power switch at night or whenever the machine will be left unattended.
Additional Safeguards for the Portion Blending
System (PBS):
1. DO NOT fill ice bin with any other substance but ice. Be careful that foreign
objects (i.e., tabs from soda or beer cans) DO NOT fall into the bin.
2. DO NOT fill ice bin past the vertical mark on the front of the ice bin. The ice bin
lid will not fit on unit as a result of overfilling the ice bin. If the ice bin lid is not
correctly in place, the ice bin interlock will not engage, resulting in non-
operation of the machine.
3.
WARNING: Ice shaver blade is sharp! Handle carefully. DO NOT operate with
loose, nicked or damaged blades.
4. DO NOT disconnect ice bin interlock. Doing so may lead to serious injury.
5. Always operate the PBS with the splash guard and/or lid in place.
Save These Safety Instructions
Enjoy the safety of this grounded machine. The Vita-Mix blender’s U.S. power cord
comes equipped with a three-prong (grounding) plug which mates with a
standard three-prong wall outlet (Figure A). This cord will vary for countries
outside the United States.
Adapters (Figure B) are available for two-prong outlets. DO NOT cut or remove
the third (ground) prong from the plug or power cord.
Consult your electrician if you are not sure if the wall outlet is grounded through
the building wiring. With a properly grounded two-prong wall outlet, ground the
machine by attaching the tab on the adapter to the wall outlet cover by means of
the screw in the center of the cover (Figure B).
WARNING! THREE-PRONG ADAPTERS ARE NOT TO
BE USED IN CANADA.
IMPORTANT NOTES!
The instructions appearing in this Use and Care
Guide cannot cover every possible condition and situation that may occur.
