When the ovencontrolsare set to CLEAN, the oven heats to temperaturesthat are
higherthanthoseusedforcooking.The hightemperaturescausefood soilto burnoff
and substantlaUydisappear. While this occurs, a device (n the oven vent helpsto
consumenormalamountsof smoke. The ovenisventedthroughan openingunderthe
air grille.
• Removethe broilerpanand anyotherutensilsfromtheoven.Theseutensilscannot
withstandthe high temperaturesof the cleaningprocess.
• Cleanspattersandspillsfromthoseareaswhichwillnotbe cteanadduringthe self-
cleaning process:
- center frontof ovenand doornear opening indoor gasket.
- pomelainoven door liner (area outsidethe door gasket).
Note: DO NOT CLEAN serial plate located on the
oven front. -
To clean these areas, use hotwater and detergent,
nonabrasivecleansers or soapfiUedsteel woolpads.
Rinsethoroughly,beingcarefulnottouseanexcessive "__
amountof water that would dampenthe door gasket.
Soil left in these areas will be more difficult to remove
after the serf-cleaningprocess since the h/gh heat will
bake on any soil that is present. DO NOT USE COMMERCIAL OVENCLEANERS
TO CLEANTHESE AREAS.
• DO NOTATTEMPTTO CLEAN,RUB,OR APPLYWATER TO GASKETON OVEN
DOOR. The gasket is essentialfor a good doorseal. Rubbingor cleaning will
damagethegasket and may affectthe seal.
• Wipe upexcess greaseandfood spi#loverswhich havenotbaked on thebottomof
the oven. Largeaccumulationsof soilcancause heavysmokeorfire inthe oven
duringthecleaningprocess.For easeofcleaning,the heatingelementcanbelifted
slightly.
• Althoughsmokeor fire in the ovenis a normal occurrenceand there is no safety
problem,therewill beventingof excessivesmokeandodor. Smokeandodorcan
be removedfromthe kitchenby turningon the ventilationsystem.
• Remove the air grille before self-cleaning. Since the oven vent is locatedjust
beneaththe airgrille, sootfrom the vent coulddiscolorwhitecoloredairgrilles.
