About Indicator Thresholds
200 PATROL DashBoard User Guide
the rate of dropped cells along the network path, which shows the network quality
as perceived by the user
the performance of a PVC (information pipe) based on a WAN infrastructure
supplied by the operator
Because it simultaneously observes both ends of the pipe, PATROL DashBoard can
characterize the overall performance and the drop rate.
About Indicator Thresholds
An indicator generally has an associated minimum limit and a maximum limit, called
thresholds. You can customize these thresholds at the individual level of each
indicator.
If an indicator often has values very near the maximum threshold, there is a risk of
frequent notifications of threshold crossings, which may not be appropriate.
Therefore, the minimum threshold is used to reset the threshold-crossing notification
process. As shown in Figure 114, after a maximum threshold crossing occurs and
triggers a notification, the indicator value must go below the minimum threshold at
least once before another maximum threshold crossing can trigger a notification.

NOTE
Threshold crossings notifications are sent by SNMP traps or by e-mail, or both,
depending on the properties set up for the network objects to which these threshold
crossings apply.
