Chapter 2 Installing PATROL DashBoard 29
License
Verify that you have a valid demonstration license (typically good for 30 days) or a
permanent license to run your PATROL products. If you have not yet installed a
permanent license, contact your BMC Software sales representative or the BMC
Software Contract Administration department for licensing information.
Port Numbers
When you install PATROL DashBoard, you will be asked to specify a port number for
connecting to all of the PATROL DashBoard servers. The default port numbers are
for PATROL DashBoard:
— 8000 for HTTP communication
— 8443 for HTTPS communication
for PATROL DashBoard Corporate Edition:
— 8090 for HTTP communication
— 9443 for HTTPS communication
Preparing for Installation
BMC Software recommends that you first install PATROL DashBoard on a limited
number of development or test machines, then configure and test PATROL
DashBoard before installing it onto production machines.
The installation utility installs only to a local computer. You must install PATROL
DashBoard locally on each computer that you intend to use as a PATROL DashBoard
server to monitor your network.
PATROL DashBoard uses the BMC Software PATROL Installation Utility. If you
need detailed information about the program, see the PATROL Installation Reference
Manual.
