About Discovery
Chapter 4 Discovering and Managing Objects 75
If you select this option, PATROL DashBoard will send packets to all of the IP

detects devices that do not respond to the broadcast.

discovered, select the
Discover only New Devices check box.
9 (optional) If you want all the discovered devices to be automatically inserted into
the navigation tree under
Network, select the Move Devices in “Network” Root
Domain
check box.

You can interrupt the discovery by clicking

NOTE
If you do not select Move Devices in “Network” Root Domain, the devices will be
displayed in the navigation tree under the current discovery entry, and you must
activate monitoring separately for each device by moving it under the Network
root or under a domain. Also, no statistics values will be generated for these
devices. These objects are not saved on the disk and are deleted from the
Generic
Discovery
directory the next time PATROL DashBoard is launched.
For instructions for moving devices, see “Assigning Devices to Domains” on
page 83.
