Managing Protocols
96 PATROL DashBoard User Guide
Managing Protocols
A protocol is used when data is exchanged. For example, a file transfer protocol is
used when files are exchanged over a TCP/IP stack. You can control which protocols
are created in PATROL DashBoard when they are encountered during discovery of
RMON2 and NetFlow devices, and you can add and delete protocols as needed. In
the navigation tree, protocols are located under a protocol root level subordinate to
the interfaces that use those particular protocols.
Activating and Creating Protocols
To Activate Protocols during Network or Device Discovery
1 In the navigation tree, expand Device Configuration and select Protocols.
The selection list of main protocols is displayed, as shown in Figure 35:
Figure 35 Protocols Selection List
2 Select the check boxes for the protocols that you want PATROL DashBoard to
manage when they are discovered on discovered devices.
3 Click Apply Changes.
4 (for RMON2 probes only) If you want to specify protocols that are not displayed in
the main list, click
Advanced Setup.
